‌ One of the greatest features that will re-contract the surface of our beloved planet is underway. That is the division of the African content into two separate continents. A continent is a large area of land that is enclosed by a sea. Currently, the world is made up of seven continents surrounded by four oceans. The continents are Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica, and Africa. The oceans are the Arctic Ocean, Antarctic Ocean, Indian ocean and pacific ocean. All continent is inhabitable except Antarctica.

What will be your reaction when you see that there is a large crack in your neighbourhood overnight that extends several kilometres? More surprising is that this crack expands as the years go by. Hmmm, only in Africa, a continental drift of tectonic plates is no more a geographic history but a reality. The African contents land area is divided into two, leading to separate ocean and continent.

Let us focus on Africa and identify a great wonder that is currently happening in East Africa. The sliding of the African continental plat into two will lead to the formation of a new continent and a new sea. Geographers want to take advantage of this to learn about how the surface of the earth was several million year's ago and compare it to what it is now. Also, they want to know more and experience the practices of how the continents are formed since no one was alive to witness their formation millions of year's ago.

Continents are made of large plates of rocks called continental plates. These are very large plates of rock that form the lithosphere (the solid part of the earth) of our planet earth. These plates are sometimes made up of a few smaller plates joint together. These plates are in constant motion sliding up or down each other and sometimes sliding side by side each other. These sliding techniques based on the direction of movement can lead to the separation of plates or one plate sliding over or under the other. This may lead to the loss of some plates which may eventually lead to the loss of a portion of land or a continent. It can two landmasses moving away from each other creating Valleys

The African continent is made up of two continental plates the NUBIAN PLATE and the SOMALI PLATE. These two plates meet together at an iconic place on the continent called the GREAT RIFT VALLEY. Which is the largest rift valley system in the world. This is a large valley system along the easternmost part of Africa in the countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ethiopia etc. This rift valley is the largest rift valley system in the world. Rift Valleys are formed as a result of the sinking of a section of land as a result of the movement of continental plates creating a depression in the middle. This is the cause of the Rift Valley in general.

The East African Rift system comprises the western and eastern continental rifts and stretches from the country of Ethiopia down to Mozambique. this valley system is an active volcano system with several active sports ready to erupt or have even erupted in the last few decades.  This great rift valley was formed several millions of years ago ( pre-historic). The regular eruption of volcanoes along the rift and new creak that is seen now may lead to the break up of continents. All these may add to the belief that the continent may be splitting to form a new ocean.

East Africa is home to several visible geographical wonders and biodiversity that have attracted tourists to the area over years. These include Lake Malawi and Tanzania’s Lake Tanganyika which are among the largest and the deepest in the worlds lakes respectively. this valley system also includes active volcanoes such as the Ol Doinyo Lengai in Tanzania, and the DallaFilla and Erta Ale in Ethiopia.

The Erta Ale is often referred to as the most active volcano in the entire world and one of the only eight and possibly the longest-existing lava lakes in the world. Though not open tourists visit, it is among the numerous wonders of the region.  a new narrow ocean basin with its mid-ocean ridge will be formed. The Victoria microplate is part of the rift branch that is along chains of deep lakes and volcanoes in the world that makes up the several features of the East African Rift System.

The rift valley is divided into two all located in the same geographical area. there is what we call the western and eastern valleys both constituting the great valley system. studies of the microplate between the eastern and western branches of the Rift, it was found to be rotating counterclockwise for the last few years relative to the African Plate. This is the major tectonic plate constituting most of the African continent. This microplate was found to rotate oppositely to all the other nearby microplates surrounding it.

The point at which the eastern and western rift meet in the Afar region has caught the attention of researchers in the past year's. This is because no one seems to know where the splitting will be either along the eastern or the western rift. This region is the meeting point of African, Somali and Arabic tectonic plates.

The Erta Ale has been erupting constantly for over 50 years and it is believed that as the Erta Ale continues to erupt, a new narrow ocean basin with its mid-ocean ridge will be formed                                                                                                     Coloured digital elevation model shows the tectonic plate boundaries, outlines of the elevation highs demonstrating the thermal bulges and lar.‌Researchers believe that the volcanic activity in the region suggests a rift-to-ridge transition.

However, studies are not clear how the East African rift may be in the coming future. where there is just a normal cruck or an evolutionary process that will slit the continent. with the current rate of splitting, we are uncertain of what is happening and when it will be fully covered.

Both scientists and geographers have difficulties in understanding the nature of our plant before the emanation of modern civilization and history. This phenomenon is a perfect example to learn about the evolutionary trajectory of the continents and oceans. Whether or not we will live to see the full eruption of this occurrence in its full glory, time will tell. But for now, it is just a deep crack in the eastern part of Africa expanding some insignificant millimetres every year. Also what the name of this new continent and ocean will be is part of the uncertainties of the events. Let me know in the comment section below what you think the name of this new continent and oceans will be.
